"Effra" pre-order and 1st single "Nanban" out now

My 4th album as a composer, bassist and bandleader “Effra” is now available to preview and pre-order (digital, CD and vinyl). This also means the first single from the album “Nanban” is out now on all platforms (including to download if you pre-order the album). Enjoy!

“Nanban” (which features the wonderful Sam Rapley) is a piece I wrote over 2 years ago while being inspired by a lot of slow burner music and in particular Nils Frahm. Mostly calm and heartfelt it gradually builds towards the end and continues building right up until the final second. It’s named after a Japanese fusion restaurant in Brixton that has since closed, but the piece is really about home and the slowly growing relationship to home and family.

The full album will be released on Friday 31st January 2025 on Ubuntu Music.

Performed by Sam Rapley, Matthew Herd, James Davison, Liam Dunachie, Scott Chapman and myself. Recorded and mixed by Alex Killpartrick. Mastered by Caspar Sutton-Jones at Gearbox Records
