This year’s EFG London Jazz Festival has got off to a great start already! I performed a short solo set at the Jazz FM Stage yesterday morning (which you can still listen to online) and this afternoon (Saturday 11th at 5:00 pm) I will be joining Julian Joseph on Jazz Line-Up (BBC Radio 3) for a chat while he will be playing some live recordings of my band from last year’s festival.
I have five upcoming gigs at this year’s festival! Tomorrow (Sunday 12th) at 7:30 pm I will be joining Kath Haling for a gig at Omnibus in Clapham. We will be performing some songs that the two of us and Liam Dunachie have come up with together, so expect lots of chilled pop songs with some outrageous jazzy moments thrown in. Next up is the Tom Millar Quartet at the Green Note on Wednesday 15th at 8:30 pm – this is our first gig since Tom’s 20-date album launch tour earlier this Autumn, so we’re very well-rehearsed and ready to rock. Tom’s compositions are fantastic and not to be missed.
At this point I would normally do all in my power to plug my gig with my own band which is on Thursday 16th and is also part of the Hampstead Arts Festival, but it’s actually completely sold out! So if you haven’t checked out my band yet, I’m releasing videos of tracks from my latest album one by one, which you can find here. And we’re next performing in January 18th at the Bush Theatre. In the meantime, on Friday 17th I am doing two shows with Alice Zawadzki at Pizza Express. This will be a really special couple of gigs – we will be performing music that we are going to record for her new album the week after, and the shows have been included in the Evening Standard’s EFG London Jazz Festival: Five Highlights No Jazz Fan Should Miss (the shows are at 7:30 pm and 10:30 pm so take your pick).
And finally… I am especially looking forward to joining my long-time musical hero and all-time mother Viktoria Mullova for one piece that we will play as a duo (one that I wrote in fact) at St John’s Downshire Hill (also part of the Hampstead Arts Festival) on Saturday 18th!
